A Man Cowl

free knit patterns, cowl, scarf, infinity scarf

Knitting this EXTRA LONG cowl for my darling man, has been taking up most of my time. It is a very interesting and eye catching pattern, using simple purl and knit stitches placed in pattern sequence to create the stunning look.

What has been very taxing on my brain is the 18 pattern rows repeated continuously and each row different. No wonder it took me a while to finish, this was not a pattern where I could remember the 18 row sequence at all.

Anyway my man loves his cowl, he can wrap it around his neck twice. I joined the finishing edge with the starting edge, just a simple cowl ONE BIG LOOP.

I made the cowl with a gorgeous yarn from ROWAN called Cocoon made from a blend of merino wool 80% and kid mohair 20%, this luscious yarn helps to bring out the cable-like design just perfectly, and it is ever so, so, soft.

As much as I love the look and feel of this cowl and I would simply love to make one for myself, I really don't think I could bring myself to make it again very soon, having to keep track of every row simply was too much for my brain, I didn't find it a relaxing experience. However that is me, the pattern instructions are very clear and easy to follow, so if you are looking for a knitting pattern for a scarf with a wonderfully fantastic textured cable-like design then this is the perfect pattern.

Winter warmers - MITTENS crochet

crochet patterns, mittens, winter mitts, ladies, gloves,

Time to rug up

A decent drop in temperature overnight, 1 degree celsius at 7am this morning. How do I know?  I was out in it, ice covered windscreens to boot. Not complaining,  we have had a very mild autumn here in UK.

Perfect timing

So, the colder weather is perfectly timed with my latest pattern for full crochet mittens. I made these mittens for myself, just love these DEBBIE BLISS yarns

Debbie Bliss Luxury Tweed Aran is a wool/angora blend. So if you love tweedy yarns but prefer something softer, this is the yarn for you.

Debbie Bliss Fez is a camel hair/merino mix and is simply stunning and ever so soft.

Both yarns are delicious to work with, and both yarns soften and relax the more you work with them.

I am sure you will just love these yarns, the tweed is non-scratchy and there is also a great range of colours, do check it out.

PATTERN NOTE:

Unfortunately, I had to buy a second ball of the Donegal Tweed yarn to finish the last 4-5 rounds of the mitten and the thumb section.  DOH!

However, if you were to use more of the Fez for the rib band you should be able to make the mittens using only 1 ball of each yarn.

STAR LIGHT STAR BRIGHT

free crochet patterns, how to crochet, stars, starbursts, starshine, swirls, christmas decos,

Where do you get your crochet inspiration?

This year my Christmas Decos inspiration came from this famous Van Gogh painting known as "Starry Night"  and also from Don McLean's lyrics  "Vincent (Starry, Starry Night)"

Stars, Sky, Moon, Christmas Night

See those lovely stars in the sky, swirling blobs of white and yellow? obviously Van Gogh's sky is beautifully exaggerated with the brilliance of the stars.  However, I do love this painting. Something very soothing and comforting about it!

What do you think?  Does it inspire you to create?

Well it definitely inspired me and here are my Christmas Decos for this year, something you can also add to your last minute TO DO LIST!

I've created three little motifs to be hung on the tree or along a string garland, or anywhere that takes your fancy. You can make a lovely garland and hang in the window or above your fireplace, add some starry starbursts, swirls and starshine and liven up your festive scene.

With this pattern you can play and have a bit of fun.  The pattern is simple and easy, you can make the motifs in ONE (1), TWO (2) OR THREE (3) COLOURS.  Instructions are given in the pattern, however you can change when you like.  Make them colourful  or simply pure white and/or gold.

You can make a variety of colourful motifs, as well as many different sizes, just by changing hook size and using various yarn weights.

So do come along and have some fun before the madness of Christmas takes hold!
